The Forbidden Kingdom – Review

The long anticipated movie had been watched, and i shall tell u this. It’s a must watch movie! The collaboration between Jackie Chan and Jet Li were superb! Anyway, cut the crap of shoe shinning on this movie. Watched this on the pass Saturday with the Best Seat, under THX sound system, it’s a 4.30pm movie and the whole cinema was fullhouse.

It’s a story of a young boy – Jason who is strong avid on chinese martial art, and obviously he’s a loser and always being the target of the school bullies in the movie (as usual on these kinda movie). With chance, he got on hold of the legendary staff and miracle happens that he got himself into a world of ancient at china. There he met with Lu, Silent Monk and Golden Sparrow and together they begin the journey of to free the Monkey God who was trapped inside a stone, and it is then Jason learn the actual chinese martial art from Lu and Silent Monk.

minor spoiler ahead

Actually there aren’t many actual fighting scene throughout the movie. The most memorable fighting scene was when Jackie Chan fights with Jet li. That’s is awesome, tiger, praying mantis, drunken fist etc all are being showned on this fight. With their actual fame on martial art in the real world, how can this two titans put up some fight that aren’t worth watching right?

The only thing that spoil the whole thing is – It’s in English!! At the beginning everything was ok and normal. Until he drop into the ancient world still it was ok as he had problem speaking chinese with the people there. However, when Jackie Chan appears, suddenly everybody seems to be talking english!! From that moment on, is really makes the whole movie sounds weird. Plus, Jackie Chan and Jet li both their english has a very strong slang, so it’s quite hard to understand what they are trying to say especially when they try to explain some ancient legend or stories.

Oh! one more thing, damn i like Liu Yi-Fei who played the role of Golden Sparrow. She looks cute and pretty, don’t u think? 😉

I know there are a lot of scene was being cut because there are part of the scene where i saw in the trailer wasn’t shown in the movie, and there are a lot of censored dialogue when the White Hair Maiden spoke. One more thing, too many wiring on most of the fights. Also, i think in the middle of the movie everything happened a bit too fast, guess is the time constraint. But anyway, the overall action is normal, story is normal, the humour is ok but the graphic/sound effect deserve some points, i like the china nature scenery a lot! I give this movie a 7/10.

I personally find this movie so-so. If it wasn’t for Jet li and Jacky chan, I wouldn’t have watch it.

Mixing english and chinese is totally crap, especially the last part when monkey king starts saying “my turn!”. That’s really stupid. I mean how can you make a money king speaks in english.

Liu Yi-Fei not nice, maybe boon you like tau kei mui ;p I find lee bing bing nice! 🙂

Personally I think that foreign directors should stop pretending to understand Chinese legends and cultures and leave them alone.
