Malacca Best Cendol

Ok now, i gonna talk about the cendol which i will never miss and big time favourite, in fact i think this cendol is the best! This cendol u won’t be able to find it in the town, well…this always happen on those delicious food as all the great things cannot be found in town always. This owner of this cendol stall was actually one of my x-colleaguemate’s aunt. My this x-colleaguemate’s dad and one of my relatives were once partner on producing cendols ya, the green stuffs. (i only knew all these after i first eat in this stall)

Anyway, first of all this owner i like her attitude, very very VERY friendly. She will talk with u and joke with u if she’s free but that only happen on the first 15 mins when she start her business of the day because after that her stall will be overwhelm with customers. She run the whole thing by herself, yup.. alone. She start her business at 1pm until it finish which normally would be 2 – 3pm. Business day i am not sure, but i went there during Sat and Sun before and both days she was there, or maybe u can try your luck on one of the weekdays 😉

So what’s so special about her cendol?

One word can describe about her cendol – FRESH. Every ingredient was 100% fresh. Once she put the bowl of cendol on ur table, and once u scoop it, u can see the fresh reddish color redbeans and dark greenish color cendol, both u can clearly see their freshness, unlike others the redbean’s color very often faded and so as the cendol’s. The crunchiness of the redbeans can proof it.

Oh btw, one thing about her santan. She squeezed herself from the coconut shredded flesh! Imagine the effort she put in on these cendols. Trust me, is totally different from all the cendols in Malacca at least. Every time i visit there surely will drink eat least 2 bowls. RM 1.50 per bowl It used to be RM 1.00. Strongly recommended for u all who visit Malacca or stayed in Malacca! did i mentioned that the cendol bowl was using metal type? I love to eat cold things with metal bowl and spoon!

Did You Know
Cendol is made from Pandan Leaf?

To get to this stall, follow the map shown below, as long as u know how to get to Klebang Beach then u should be able to understand this map. The stall is actually right outside a house on a big land with a lot of fruits’ tree behind the yard, easy to miss but if u go slowly u can spot it

So sad that I did not get to try this stall that you so strongly recommended. 8,(

But I did tried 7 chendols in 3 days, 2 weeks ago when we went Malacca by Kortsortium coach. Very Very Comfortable ride.

1. The one near the Christ Church Clock Tower operated by an Indian man.
Verdict = Kapui…! Salty and warm kidney beans ..yeee! Not using fresh coconut cream and the ice is coarsely crushed.

2. The famous Jonker 88
Verdict = Too sweet !! the “gula melaka” does not melt in your mouth, and the ice is too rough. But the shop is very quaint and cute. You should visit it for a photo shot.

3. The supposedly famous Nonya chendol opposite the Hoe Kee Chicken rice restaurant.
Verdict = too much coconut; very “jerlak” ….! I could not even finished the bowl shared with my bf.

4. The “glamourous” chendol from Hotel Equatorial – made by True Blue Paranakan Chefs.
Verdict = a Big Yucks. the Gula was diluted. Red beans was squashed. The coconut cream tasted like it was freshly opened (from a box).

5. Ole Sayang Restaurant (an old established Nonya restaurant)
Verdict = Diluted and Bland. Tasted like most Chendol you can find in Singapore’s food courts. Singaporeans will feel at home, eating it. Hee hee…..

6. Along Jonker Street, a small unhygienic stall by the roadside.
(Being Singaporeans, we assumed UNHYGIENIC equals DELICIOUS.
Because usually stalls in hawker centers rated D stands for DELICIOUS. We are so wrong. Unhygienic equals Diarrhoea, also D ……

7. So, the best chendol in Malacca we have tasted is the one in ……..drums rolling …… MAHKOTA PARADE.

It is a stall in Seleria Food Court in Mahkota Parade. Stall has been selling Chendol for 12 years. Locals refer to her stall as ABC chendol. The name of the stall is Dessert Village. You have to order from the stall first, get a coupon and pay up at the cashier first before collecting your Chendol.

Why is it so delicious …?

1. Ice finely crushed. Cold and refreshing …!
2. Fresh coconut cream, squeezed from real coconut, daily. You have to go after 11 am because of this.
3. Chendol is light green with a pandan smell.
4. Ratio of coconut cream and “gula meleka” and ice is just perfect……. Stall owner, Jenny, said that she uses top grade “gula meleka” so you can actually taste the palm sugar. Other Chendols we tried just taste like sugar syrup.

Its so good that we went back again before departure to eat it once more. Jenny and us have an agreement — Tell them you are from Singapore and Jenny promised that she will give you extra “liao”. hee hee…..

PS: You should also try their ice kacang. Ask for more peanuts.
My bf actually love the ice kacang more…….

I hope, if you have a chance, you can also try this one that we like so much.

Thanks for letting us share …

Go try the authentic Peranankan Cendol at Breakthrough Cafe in Malacca!!! This is unlike the roadside dessert which is usually too diluted….
Great on a hot hot day!!!
